Don’t Miss the Bus! By Steve Saalfeld
Another Friday, another Lakewood Rotary meeting. If you weren’t there, you missed a good one!
President Barlow rang us to order at 12:30pm. Clint Johnson invoked some bars from Ecclesiastes that reminded him of the fall season that is well upon us. Somehow your Bulletin writer got conned into doing the pledge of allegiance. I mostly agreed when I remembered that once you get out a couple syllables of ye olde pledge, the rest of the room takes it from there.
For our viewing pleasure, the Brady Bunch opening credits grid was full of the likes of John “Ole” Magnuson, Steve Mazoff, Jim Rooks and Margeret Githiaga Osundwa. Sadly, none of our Zoomers sang the Brady Bunch theme song for our listening pleasure—maybe next week.
There was no sunshine report from Wendy McGowan as all are well prompting President Barlow to paraphrase Bill Withers as he declared “Ain’t no sunshine when I’m gone.” It wasn’t until I looked the song up that I realized Mr. Withers said “Ain’t no sunshine when SHE’S gone,” but we’ll call Barlow’s paraphrase close enough for government work.
